3G Diversity Architecture and MNO Benefits

US Calif : The Petrov Group announced its report on 3G/3G+ diversity capability and its architecture implementations. This mini-report is part of its HSDPA transceiver strategies report introduced in March 2006. The diversity report demonstrates why this capability, whose deployment is expected in 2007, is critical to mobile network operators (MNOs).

"Receiver diversity generally is defined as wireless device architecture with multiple separated receive paths. Implementation of receiver diversity architecture requires structural changes in the whole reference design," said Boris Petrov ( inset ), managing partner of the Petrov Group.

"One may argue that receiver diversity architecture increases complexity and cost, but overall gains to MNOs are tremendous. Receiver diversity is a technology that significantly improves overall received signal strength in all link conditions: 50+% increase of network capacity (lower operating cost/subscriber), 100% higher data rates, major improvement in the coverage and quality of service (fewer dropped calls, in-building coverage)."
