Telecom’s Video Clips service enables customers to stream video highlights, up to three minutes long, directly to their mobile phone. As well as the best in New Zealand news, sport and weather, Telecom’s small screen action includes the latest New Zealand and overseas music videos, cartoons, movie trailers, the latest entertainment industry news and game reviews, previews and features. To help ensure content meets the preferences of New Zealanders it has been sourced from popular providers including TVNZ, SKY TV, Juice TV, E! Entertainment, Gamer.TV as well as film and music distributors. Video clips will be continually updated and new content will be made available over the coming months, including highlights of the DHL Lions Series and NPC games. Telecom Mobile General Manager Kevin Kenrick said Telecom was excited about the potential of the mobile phone as a new visual medium. “Video Clips is a new way to keep up–to-date with information and enjoy entertainment. We used to listen to the radio; then we tuned into TV and surfed the Internet. Now we can flip open the phone. “You need never miss the rugby action or the news again because the information comes to you – wherever you might be. “We’ve worked hard to provide content that New Zealanders will want to watch – be it the national news, the latest video from Steriogram, or Tana Umaga leading the All Blacks to victory against the Lions,” Mr Kenrick says. Video Clips are streamed on-demand which means there is no waiting for downloads. Customers will briefly see a loading screen then the clip will start playing. The experience is like watching a video clip online and means the clips do not take up storage space in the mobile phone's memory. Video Clips can be viewed anywhere within Telecom’s 027 coverage area - about 97% of New Zealand – using Telecom’s Sanyo 7400 mobile phone. More Video Clip-capable mobile phones are to be released over the next few months. Customers access and select the Video Clip they want to watch using the Media Player from the main menu on their phone. The Video Clips service is free for an introductory period. Telecom will notify users of the full details of charges and associated pricing at least 30 days before introduction. Video Clips is the latest T3G service, following last November’s launch of the super-fast Mobile Broadband mobile data network, December’s launch of video messaging and February’s launch of Push 2 Talk. |
