| Europe : Gemstar-TV Guide Int. will showcase its new Java-based IPG application designed for mobile devices at the National Cable and Telecommunications Association's (NCTA) 2005 National Show in San Francisco, April 3-6. The new IPG application, which is currently in development, is expected to be available for deployment later this year and will be demonstrated in TV Guide's booth #807. Using Gemstar-TV Guide's patented IPG technology, the new application will enable mobile phone users to remotely access television program listings, search listings by title, date or network, set program reminders, and forward program reminders to friends' mobile devices. The IPG will also allow users to schedule recordings on digital video recorders (DVRs) that are integrated with Gemstar-TV Guide's i-Guide IPG, such as Motorola's DCT6412 HD-DVR set-top with dual-tuner functionality. i-Guide is Gemstar-TV Guide's latest IPG for digital cable that features fast, intuitive navigation to advanced interactive services such as on demand, HDTV and dual-tuner DVR options. In addition, the new application gives users access to TV-related ring tones, wall paper and video content, including sneak peeks of select shows and content from TV Guide SPOT, TV Guide's new on-demand network. TV Guide Spot is expected to launch to digital subscribers of Comcast and Time Warner Cable in second quarter 2005. A first-of-its-kind on-demand network with all originally-produced content, TV Guide SPOT will feature short-form video entertainment programs that guide consumers to the most compelling fare on TV each week. "Gemstar-TV Guide's products reach consumers on a variety of platforms, providing information and entertainment guidance wherever they are, in the manner that most appeals to them," said Rich Cusick, senior vice president, Business Development, Gemstar-TV Guide Intl. "This new application expands the reach of our portfolio and further enhances the television viewing experience by giving consumers access to our IPG features from virtually anywhere. We've already had success in this space with our IPG overseas and we look forward to bringing this feature to mobile devices in the U.S." Gemstar-TV Guide's new IPG application builds upon its success in Japan where it recently launched G-GUIDE Mobile through its Interactive Program Guide Inc. joint venture with Dentsu Inc. and Tokyo News Service Ltd. G-GUIDE Mobile is a similar mobile application based on Gemstar-TV Guide's IPG for the Japanese market, which is branded as "G-GUIDE." G-GUIDE Mobile is currently available through NTT DoCoMo, Inc., the world's leading mobile communications company with more than 49 million customers, on 901i 3G FOMA(R) mobile phones, the company's most-advanced series. |
