The
CDMA Development Group today announced the successful conclusion of
the 2002 CDMA Latin America Regional Conference, held recently in Sao
Paulo, Brazil. Senior
executives from wireless operators, regulatory bodies, analyst firms
and equipment manufacturers provided conference delegates insight into
industry trends and developments in 3G CDMA2000 technology, as well
as opportunities for next-generation services in Latin America. The
conference attracted nearly 200 representatives from regional service
providers, vendors and the media. "Participation
at this year's Latin America Conference is indicative of the region's
heightened interest in bringing advanced wireless services to market,
and is exemplified through the launch of 3G CDMA2000 services by operators
Centennial in Puerto Rico, and Telefonica Celular and Telesp Celular
in Brazil," said Perry LaForge, executive director of the CDG.
"This is truly an exciting time for the CDMA industry. Since October
2000, 13 operators around the globe have successfully launched CDMA2000
services, bringing real 3G applications to market." Among
the speakers at the conference were Brian O'Shaughnessy, vice president,
wireless technology, Bell Mobility; Dave Brewer, executive director,
engineering and technical operations, BellSouth International; Omar
Flores Carrillo, roaming and long distance marketing manager, Iusacell;
Changmoon Han, manager, access network development team, SK Telecom;
Wuilian Salamanca, engineering manager, Smartcom PCS; John Dubois, director,
international business development, Sprint PCS; and Luis Avelar, vice
president, Telesp Celular. Other presenters included senior executives
from Ericsson, International Telecommunication Union (ITU), Lucent Technologies,
Motorola, Nortel Networks, Qualcomm and the Yankee Group. The CDMA Development Group is a nonprofit trade association formed to foster the worldwide development, implementation and use of CDMA technologies. The 110 member companies of the CDG include many of the world's largest wireless operators and equipment manufacturers. The primary activities of the CDG include development of cdmaOne(TM) and CDMA2000 features and services, public relations, education and seminars, regulatory affairs and international support. |
