V-Live 3G Live Streaming Video Deal
30th April, 2002

PacketVideo Corp. today announced that the company has partnered with NTT DoCoMo to deliver V-Live, a live video streaming service for FOMA (3G) video-enabled mobile phones. The trial service is scheduled to begin on April 26, 2002, targeting enterprise users and consumers.

V-Live is a service based on the FOMA live video streaming platform that NTT DoCoMo announced on Aug. 28, 2001. This platform enables the delivery of a single live stream to numerous handsets (FOMA video-enabled phones) simultaneously. NTT DoCoMo and PacketVideo jointly developed the technology, enabling MPEG-4 streams to be transferred in Realtime Transport Protocol (RTP) from pvServer™ and converted into a 3G-324M-based format compliant with FOMA video-enabled phones. The streaming solution at the foundation of this service is PacketVideo's pv3 Mobilemedia System™ platform.

V-Live enables numerous FOMA videophones to simultaneously view real time or archived video from a monitoring camera or live event. Examples of V-Live content include live camera monitoring of children, pets, and elders, and security surveillance for construction sites and stores. NTT DoCoMo also established the "FOMA Live Streaming Delivery Trial Consortium," consisting of businesses and academic organizations with the goal of developing V-Live applications and researching their market opportunities. Enterprise applications include remote training, employee communications, virtual tours and remote learning. The consortium conducted field trials through March 31, 2002, the success of those trials has resulted in the April 26th V-Live launch.

Mitsuru Kodama, senior manager, MVL project, multimedia planning department, the multimedia division at NTT DoCoMo, commented, "We are very pleased to have quickly achieved simultaneous live streaming to numerous handsets, which is an extremely attractive feature of 3G FOMA service and PDA. Mobile phones have established their position as a powerful and attractive new communication tool providing more flexibility than the traditional telephone. With the widespread availability of live simultaneous video streaming service to numerous handsets, the applications for mobile phones continues to expand in both the workplace and at home."

PacketVideo Corp. President, CEO, and Co-Founder James Brailean said, "We are pleased to announce the successful V-Live launch of this live wireless streaming solution for numerous handsets and we look forward to the full launch of service in the Japanese market. In addition to providing an end-to-end solution that includes the encoding, delivery, and decoding of streaming video, PacketVideo also provides support with content developers for superior application development. We hope to continue to offer even greater products and services in this new era of mobile communication."

PacketVideo Japan President Kazunori Takagi said, "We are very happy that we are able to offer a solution in which users will be able to experience the high bandwidth benefits of 3G mobile phones. Because 3G has experienced rapid adoption in the Japanese market, PacketVideo Japan, plans to continue to develop and offer support in delivering value-added service to mobile phone and PDA users."

About pv3 Mobilemedia System™

PacketVideo's pv3 Mobilemedia System is a 3GPP compliant end-to-end wireless multimedia solution that encodes, delivers and decodes wireless multimedia, video, and audio over error-prone wireless networks. pvPlatform comprises pvAuthor™ for encoding content, pvServer for controlling and delivering rich media, and pvPlayer™ for decoding and displaying the content on a mobile device. Each component enables wireless operators, device manufacturers, and application and content developers to deliver rich media over current and next-generation wireless networks. One of the most significant features of pv3 Mobilemedia System is PacketVideo's FrameTrack™ dynamic rate control technology. FrameTrack provides uninterrupted video and audio streaming at the best possible quality in wireless, error-prone networks by dynamically varying the bit rate of video transmitted. pvServer uses FrameTrack to adjust the frame rate automatically for each individual subscriber based on video quality information detected by pvPlayer in real time.

PacketVideo's products are compliant with standards and specifications from 3GPP, 3GPP2, MPEG-4, WAP, IETF and other global standards organizations and technical forums. pvPlayer is optimized for major mobile chipsets from manufacturers such as ARM, Infineon, Intel, Lucent, Qualcomm and Texas Instruments. PacketVideo is also working in cooperation with the world's leading handset manufacturers such as Casio, Compaq, Motorola, Sagem, Sanyo, Sendo, Sharp and many others in order to integrate PacketVideo technology into multimedia-capable mobile phones and PDAs.
