CDMA Wireless Roaming launched by KDDI

KDDI
Corp., Okinawa Cellular are pleased to announce that they and China
United Telecommunications Corporation, which started a cdmaOne™
service on January 8, agreed to provide KDDI’s “Global Passport”
international roaming service in Beijing and Shanghai from today. KDDI
plans to expand the service, which allows the use of “au”
mobile phones in different countries, to cover all parts of China. The
“Global Passport” international roaming service does not require
any special application or additional charges. It is the ONLY service
of its type in Japan, and lets users use their Japanese mobile phones
freely when traveling abroad.
The service is already available in South Korea, Hong Kong, USA, Australia,
Canada and New Zealand. Preparations
are already underway to begin the same service in Brazil, Mexico and
other countries where companies offer services with the cdmaOne™
system. Gaining a head start over those companies using different systems,
KDDI will continue to expand the “Global Passport” service
areas with services for “au” mobile phones.

Fees : Additional
fees such as daily and monthly basic usage fees are not required. The
international roaming service has its own specialized fee structure,
independent of domestic contracts and discounts. Fees are not affected
by the time of day at which calls are made. KDDI and Okinawa Cellular
will bill for the new service at the same time as it bills for standard
domestic services.

certificates were awarded to LGE’s GSM handsets (Model: LG-510W and
W7000) and GPRS color handset (Model: G7000) developed with LGE’s
own technologies.

Implementation Forum to develop and implement a single mobile digital
certificate (m-Cert) standard
