Search giant Google released the Android operating system in 2008, the open-source software that is now on just under half of all tablets sold – but it hasn’t yet released its own line of tablets to complement its 3G smartphone line, Nexus.
As with the Nexus phones, made by HTC then Samsung, Google will most likely commission a dedicated hardware manufacturer to create a line of Google branded tablets. In August 2011, Google acquired Motorola Mobility, which could suggest the first Google tablet will be made by Motorola.
