Analog Devices announced availabililty of its second-generation chipset for developers of advanced multimedia mobile handsets based on the 3G TD-SCDMA Low Chip Rate (LCR) air interface. The new SoftFone-LCR+ chipset expands Analog Devices’ portfolio of TD-SCDMA technology solutions and builds upon the company’s legacy as a leader in TD-SCDMA technology development by adding support for a wide range of enhanced multimedia functions. Before the appearance of the Chocolate phone it’s fair to say that LG wasn’t at the forefront of the public’s mobile consciousness. With moderate success coming from its prosaic 3G clamshells on the 3 network, the Korean outfit was hardly associated with sexy, desirable handsets here in the UK. But then this spring, out of nowhere, it dropped the sweetest bomb on our unsuspecting heads.
3 Ireland said that Tesco is now selling 3’s products and services in thirty seven stores up and down the country. TeliaSonera’s Spanish mobile operator, Yoigo, launches its low cost and easy-to-use mobile services on December 1, 2006. 3G Media Consult (3GMC), specialist in mobile content distribution to mobile operators, has been acquired by Comsys, supplier of interactive voice response systems (IVRs), speech-controlled self-service solutions, multimedia contact centres and network services. Both Comsys and 3G Media Consult were already part of DMS International Group and will now join forces under the name of Comsys.
The European Commission today announced that it has approved the planned transaction to merge the Networks Business Group of Nokia and the carrier-related operations of Siemens into a new company, to be called Nokia Siemens Networks. According to the Commission's assessment, the transaction would not restrict effective competition in the relevant markets of mobile and fixed telecom networks and services. QUALCOMM and Motorola announced an expansion in their relationship. In addition to collaborating on CDMA2000, the two companies will now be working together to bring UMTS handsets to global markets. Motorola Mobile Devices has approved QUALCOMM's Mobile Station Modem (MSM) chipsets for incorporation into future UMTS handset designs.
Comarco and Ascom announced that the two companies have formed a cooperative alliance to develop and market 3G and 4G wireless network Quality of Service, optimization, and test measurement systems.  
Nokia and Finnish telecom operator Elisa tcarried out the world's first WCDMA/HSDPA data call on the 900 MHz band in a commercial network. The call was conducted in Elisa's live network in Finland, and the equipment included the Nokia Flexi WCDMA Base Station with a special solution for sharing the site infrastructure of the existing GSM base station. iSuppli said its teardown analysis service conducted a dissection of the Huawei E620, a PCMCIA card that works with 2G tri-band GSM and 3.5G HSDPA. The E620 provides a relatively seamless wireless high-speed Internet connection for mobile PCs that have PCMCIA slots, according to iSuppli.
