Nortel announced that it has reached a definitive agreement for the sale of certain assets and the transfer of certain liabilities related to the company's UMTS access business to Alcatel-Lucent. Huawei technologies said it has completed video phone and HSDPA 3.6 Mbps services trials on a network in Europe using UMTS 900 MHz and that it plans to continue to conduct multiple UMTS 900 MHz field trials in Australia and Europe.

T-Mobile UK has selected Ericsson as its sole partner for a dual 2G/3G core network modernization programme. As T-Mobile UK's prime integrator, Ericsson will take full turn-key responsibility for the supply of equipment, deployment, integration and live migration.

Before the appearance of the Chocolate phone it’s fair to say that LG wasn’t at the forefront of the public’s mobile consciousness. With moderate success coming from its prosaic 3G clamshells on the 3 network, the Korean outfit was hardly associated with sexy, desirable handsets here in the UK. But then this spring, out of nowhere, it dropped the sweetest bomb on our unsuspecting heads.
3 Ireland said that Tesco is now selling 3’s products and services in thirty seven stores up and down the country. TeliaSonera’s Spanish mobile operator, Yoigo, launches its low cost and easy-to-use mobile services on December 1, 2006. The initial commercial offer includes the same prices for both post and prepaid customers.
In advance of the biggest week for the telecommunications industry since the turn of the millennium, the 11th Annual 3G World Congress and Mobility Marketplace (4 - 7th December) publicly urges the industry's key players to consider carefully their contribution to the stability of the world's communications infrastructure, and encourages them to engage in debate on a macro level, as well as focusing on their own products and revenue streams. A new research report from the wireless analyst firm Berg Insight forecasts that 60 percent of WCDMA handset shipped worldwide will have integrated GPS / Galileo receivers by 2010. Satellite positioning technology enables delivery of location based services such as personal navigation on mobile phones. Another significant benefit is the ability to position mobile emergency calls with high accuracy.
Russia has the potential to become a world leader in advanced mobile communications if it follows a transparent and objective approach to licensing third-generation spectrum, according to the GSM Association, the global trade association for mobile operators.
