HTC Desire 601 is a mid-range Android smartphone with 4G support.
When EE launched the first 4G network back in October 2012 only premium handsets supported 4G. However, that's all changing with a new breed of mid-range handsets with 4G LTE support now available : including the Nokia Lumia 820, Sony Xperia SP and the Huawei Ascend P1 LTE.
We can now add the HTC Desire 601(or HTC Zara) to that list after HTC officially unveiled the mid-range Android smartphone. It's the first HTC Desire smartphone to support 4G and it offers a more affordable option for consumers looking to join the 4G revolution.
Currently, no price has been unveiled but we'd expect it to come in around £250 - a similar price point to the Ascend P1 LTE. So what do you get for your money other than 4G support ?
Well, the HTC Desire 601 specs include a 4.5 inch touch-screen qHD display (960*540 pixels). It's not the lightest or thinnest smartphone around (130g and 9.88mm respectively), but it's easily compact enough to slide inside the pocket of your skinny-jeans.
For a mid-range smartphone it'll deliver reasonable power thanks to it's 1.4 GHz dual-core processor which is backed up by 1GB of RAM. You also get 8GB of on-board memory which is expandable using microSD cards. HTC have also managed to pack in a 5 mega-pixel camera capable of recording full 1080p video and a front-facing VGA camera for video calling.
HTC's Desire 601 looks like a decent mid-range handset and we're looking forward to reviewing it . It's expected to launch at the end of September and as soon as we get more news we'll let you know . Over the next couple of months we'd expect more mid-range 4G smartphones to be unveiled, as increased competition drives down the cost of 4G tariffs.
