Sony have been one of the biggest supporters of the Android platform with all of their smartphones running on Google's platform. However, in an interview with Mobile Today Sony didn't rule out launching Windows smartphones in the future.
In the interview Sony Mobile’s UK & Ireland MD Pierre Perron stated that "As far as Xperia smartphones go, Android remains the preferred partner" , but also added that " We are currently investigating with the likes of Microsoft the possibility of diversifying our product strategy.’
Sony have experience with Microsoft in the laptop market as their laptops run on the Windows operating system. Additionally, prototype Sony smartphones have previously appeared on eBay showing that Sony have been considering the operating system in the past.
The launch of Windows Phone 8 won't have harmed the chances of Xperia smartphones launching on the platform. Windows Phone 8 adds support for higher specification devices, support for microSD cards and interacts more closely with the desktop and tablet versions of Windows.
Microsoft look like they are around for the long-haul in the mobile market and we wouldn't be surprised to see a Sony smartphone launching on the Windows platform in the next year. 3G will bring you all the latest on Sony's next-gen smartphones as soon as we get fresh information !
