At one time Nokia was pinning all its hopes on the Nokia N9 and the MeeGo platform to be its savour in the smartphone market. However, they've since announced they'll be making Windows smartphones and the Nokia N9 has moved into the background.

Infact, we're not even sure whether the Nokia N9 will launch in either the US or the UK. However, what we do know is that the Nokia N9 is now available to pre-order in Australia. The prices listed are equate to £540 for the 16GB version and £640 for the 64GB version. This puts it at a higher price than the iPhone 4, but the specification of the Nokia N9 is above that of an iPhone 4.

The Nokia N9 has a 3.8 inch touch-screen, 1GHz processor and an 8 mega-pixel camera with Carl Zeiss Lens. It also supports Dolby Digital Plus Encoding and Dolby Headphone post-processing , as well as NFC. It'll run on the Nokia MeeGo platform with the Harmattan interface which has a unique swipe-interface.

We'll just have to wait and see whether Nokia brings the N9 to the UK, but it would be a shame if we didn't see it on our shores.
