News has broken that a number of European Mobile Network Operators are meeting to discuss a new Mobile Operating System. This is according to the French newspaper Le Figaro and as covered by Mobile Business Briefing article.
The article says that France Telecom ( Orange ), Vodafone, Deutsche Telekom and Telefonica are meeting in October to discuss developing a new mobile operating system. The reason for the meeting is believed to be to discuss Apple's and Android's stranglehold on the mobile OS market. Recent reports confirm that this becomes stronger each month.
The companies involved could be tempted to take the Android software - under license - to develop a sister code more tailored to mobile phone operators' requirements.
As soon as we hear more we will be sure to post it here.
