Archos 43

The Tablet market seems to have exploded into life with LG, Archos and Viewsonic all announcing Android tablets on the same day. With Samsung due to announce its Samsung Galaxy Tablet tommorow the marketplace is looking very crowded.

LG didn't give any real details about their LG Optimus Pad , other than it will run on the Android platform and will have superior performance and be thinner than its competitors.

Archos gave a lot more details about their 5 , yes five, Android tablets that they will launch.

The lowest Tablet in its range is the Archos 28 , which like the whole range runs Android 2.2. It has an 800 MHz processor, , 3D Graphics support and a 2.8 inch touch-screen. The 4GB Archos 28 costs just £99 or an 8GB version for just £109.

Archos also announced the Archos 32, which comes with a 3.2 inch touch-screen, 8GB of memory, HD camera which is priced at £129.

The Archos 43 is another Tablet announced (pictured above) , which has a 4.3 inch touch-screen (maybe you can see  a pattern here) and has a 1GHz processor, 16GB of memory and will cost £199.

The next step up leads you to the Archos 70 with, you guessed it, a 7 inch touch-screen display, front-facing camera, mini-HDMI port. It will be available in a choice of either an 8GB version for £229 or a 250GB version for £269.

The flagship Archos tablet is the Archos 101, which has a huge 10.1 inch touch-screen , but no price has been confirmed for this model.

Viewsonic also announced an Android tablet  with its ViewPad 7, which also runs on Android 2.2.

The ViewPad 7 has a 7 inch touch-screen , 3G and WiFi support, Bluetooth, 3G and WiFi connectivity , microSD support, built-in A-GPS and a VGA camera and 3 mega-pixel camera. The price of the Viewpad 7 or a release date havn't been announced.

The Android tablet marketplace is looking very crowded , so we should see a price war between companies trying to take away share from Apple. The advantage that the Android tablets should have is a lower price-point and it'll be interesting to see whether people are willing to move away from the "Apple Cool Factor" to save some money.
