Android smartphone users can now benefit from a major update which includes a walking mode. The latest update is Google Maps 4.5 Beta - for driving and walking modes.

Google Maps mobile Beta 4.5 for Android now offers a walking mode which provides routes for walkers rather than car drivers etc. The beauty of this new mode is that Google Maps vibrates your phone when you need to change your walking route so you can admire the scenery or listen to music as you walk.

The Street View capability has benefited from a facelift which now means that searching is more detailed for locations near to you.

Google Maps 4.5 for Android can be downloaded from Android Market but please note you need Android 1.6 or above.
