Nokia Comes With Hype

Nokia Comes With Hype

7th September , 2009

Europe : Now that Nokia World is over for a another year we look at what all the hype means after the dust has settled. Of course, Nokia wont take kindly to other phone manufactures such as Apple and Blackberry trying to knock them off their perch and at Nokia World we saw a thrust from Nokia like the Trojans forcing back the Greeks in the remake of the film Troy. Its fair to say that Nokia were caught out-of-sync with the launch of the Apple iPhone and a number of the new Blackberries from Research in Motion.

We clearly saw from last week that Nokia are now “homed in” with a global strategy and the smartphone market clearly needs defending as well as an attack from Nokia.

This strategy can be broken down as follows :

Nokia Comes with Music is a very important area for Nokia and saw the launch of the Nokia X3 Slider and the Nokia X6 which will become the flagship products which focus the mind on Nokia Comes with Music.

Nokia ventured into new ground as it unveiled its first smartphone – the N900 - which uses the open-source Linux operating system and a new Nokia 3G Netbook – Nokia’s first ever laptop. The Nokia N900 seems to launch Nokia headlong into a crash with the iPhone and the Blackberries as this is Nokia’s latest challenger in the really high end smartphone arena. Nokia has clawed back lost ground in the global smartphone battle in the last 6 months and intends to go even better. The Nokia N97 Mini sneaked into play too and was well received.

Nokia is in pole position as it became the first mobile phone manufacturer to launch a netbook and this clearly shows a transformation in Nokia’s roadmap for the future. Another area where Nokia has ventured is in the area of money – mobile money. Nokia Money is a new mobile money service offering people, with a 3G mobile phone or device, a basic financial application service.

So what did the Nokia World hype achieve ? Well immediately on launch of the Nokia 3G Netbook, Nokia’s stock price rose 6% but only time will tell.

While Nokia were parading at Nokia World the other mobile phone manufacturers were busy themselves launching new 3G mobile phones such as :

HTC Touch2 Windows Mobile 6.5 3G SmartPhone

Sony Ericsson XPERIA X2 3G Windows Mobile Phone

LG GM750 Windows 6.5 3G Mobile

Vodafone Announce Eight New Branded Mobiles
