Europe : After all the speculation regarding a new 3G mobile operator giant being formed in the UK, it’s now official. T-Mobile UK and Orange UK will join forces to form a new jointly shared partnership.
Both T-Mobile UK and Orange UK will stay as they are for eighteen months. As from now the management of both companies will develop and agree a new joint corporate brand.
The new T-Mobile UK and Orange UK venture becomes the largest mobile operator in the UK with a total customer base of over 28 million. This equates to around 38 percent of the total UK mobile device subscribers.
UK mobile phone subscribers will benefit in a number of ways :
- Improved network coverage and better indoor and outdoor network quality 3G services
- A larger network of own shops and improved customer services
- The new larger company will compete much better with ( Vodafone, O2 and 3 )
To create the new joint venture, Deutsche Telekom would contribute T-Mobile UK on a cash-free, debt-free basis, including T-Mobile UK’s 50 percent holding in its 3G network joint venture with Hutchison and gross tax losses carried forward of at least £1.5 billion.
France Telecom would contribute the whole of Orange UK including £1.25 billion of intra-group net debt in order to equalize the value of the contributions to the joint venture.
