Europe : Android is a hugely popular operating system for mobile phones and net-books.
The latest version Android 1.6 will launch in October, although the Software Development Kit (SDK) is already available to developers.
Popular mobile phones that run on Android include the HTC Magic, Samsung Galaxy and the Sony Ericsson Xperia X3.
Android 1.6 brings new improvements to the Android platform and consequently all devices running on the Android platform.
One major new improvement that Android 1.6 brings is “Quick” search. It’s a smarter searching method that enables you to choose which areas you’d like to search, for example internet history and emails. The search then learns which results are more significant based on the clicks you make, ensuring a faster more effective search process.
The camera and video recording process has also been improved with Android 1.6. Easily toggling between static and moving images has been implemented and launching the camera is now 38% faster and the “gap” between shots is now 28% shorter.
Android 1.6 adds a battery indicator for users to see which applications are consuming battery power.
Android 1.6 also brings with it brand new functionality.
A new multi-lingual speech engine called Pico enables the mobile to speak lines in foreign languages with that languages accent. It supports English, French, Italian, German and Spanish.
