US : Quorum Systems is introducing its latest high performance, ultra-low-power, multi-band, multi-mode radio frequency (RF) transceiver, the Sereno QS3200, adding TD-SCDMA support to the company's already existing 2G/2.5G/3G RF transceiver family.

Built on a single-die, the QS3200 represents the company noted, the world's highest integration TD-SCDMA + GSM/GPRS/EDGE transceiver announced to date, offering dramatic reductions in radio area and bill of materials (BOM) for mobile phone designers. The company is currently working with baseband partners and expects platform reference designs utilizing the QS3200 to be available in mid-2008.

Quorum's QS3200 true single-chip multi-mode transceiver, implemented in bulk CMOS, simultaneously supports dual-band (1900MHz and 2000MHz) TD- SCDMA/HSPDA Category 10 and Quad-band (USGSM850, GSM900, DCS1800, PCS1900) GSM/GPRS/EDGE. Derived from Quorum's existing, QS3000 WCDMA+EDGE transceiver, the QS3200 also integrates all six LNAs, requires no external Baluns, and its unique digital transmit architecture removes the need for external transmit SAWs for TD-SCDMA as well as GPRS/EDGE. Compared with solutions in the market today, it removes as many as four chips from the radio BOM, without the need for costly modules. The integration of LNAs and removal or transmit SAWs and Baluns further reduces the resulting radio footprint and cost.

"Using the same, proven core architecture on all our designs has allowed us to deliver quality products across the standards associated with mobile communication," said Dr Bernard Xavier, Quorum Systems' president and CEO. "Having gained years of experience at designing 2.5G and 3G transceivers in bulk CMOS, our company is also very well positioned to support the increasing demand for cost competitive, high performance, solution-on-chips that incorporate baseband and radio on a single die."

The QS3200 represents Quorum's sixth RF transceiver product introduction since 2004. The product range now includes the QS500, QS1000, QS1100, QS2000, QS3000 and QS3200. All transceivers have the same fundamental core architecture that enables the company to deliver highly integrated, high- performance, ultra-low-power and low cost transceivers for GSM, GPRS, EDGE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Dual-Mode, 3G, WCDMA and TD-SCDMA.
