ASIA
: Wintegra Inc., a fabless semiconductor company focused on the access
infrastructure market, today announced general availability and released
details of its production-ready data path software targeted at the
Wireless Infrastructure. New additions to the Wireless 2.0 code library
extend the Wintegra Wireless Platform for 3rd Generation Base Station
(NodeB), Radio Network Controller (RNC) and Media Gateway (MG) interface
designs. This unique approach blends feature-rich, production-quality
software with Wintegra's WinPath Access Packet Processors to meet
the specific requirements of wireless equipment. Wintegra is the only
network processor company providing such a software package for the
wireless infrastructure.
The Wireless 2.0
software fully utilizes Wintegra's internal packet processing engines
to provide a hardware-enhanced, multi-protocol foundation. It leverages
Wintegra's unique hardware architecture with its modified symmetric
multi-processors to enable the code to be cost and performance matched
across a wide range of wireless systems from 150 Kpps to over 2 Mpps.
Among the advantages of Wintegra's wireless approach is the potential
to cut as much as a year from a customer's typical data path software
development cycle based on traditional older RISC, network and communications
processor based designs.
The Wireless 2.0
release supports the industry's widest range of performance and features
for market-leading wireless designs. It provides advanced data path
features such as ATM, IP and Ethernet transport for the 3GPP Standardized
'Iub' interface between the NodeB (Base Transceiver Station) and RNC
(Base Station Controller) equipment. This allows equipment manufacturers
using a WinPath-based silicon and software platform to meet stringent
3GPP specification requirements and modify any new design to add new
features as they are standardized by 3GPP. New systems can be designed
as a scalable platform allowing manufacturers to use any board developed
at either end of the Iub, optimizing cost and features for a wide
range of wireless infrastructure equipment.
As with other
software packages already announced from Wintegra, this new software
is factory hardened and provided as a "shrink-wrapped" package
that can be easily integrated with customer-specific or pre-developed,
third-party control plane code. This software is royalty free and
requires no upfront NRE.
Wintegra has numerous
manufacturers designing with the WinPath Access Processor family.
The Wireless 2.0 software is now being announced to the wider customer
base as a logical evolution from the previous release, Wireless 1.0,
which has been used successfully by several of the leading equipment
manufacturers in their latest equipment designs for 3G in Europe,
North America, South America and the Far East.
