3G Wireless MSC Switch Fabric Order
19th September 2002

LG Electronics announced that it had incorporated Erlang Technology's switch fabric, the Se, into its new line of broadband switch/router platform, which includes 3G wireless MSC (Mobile Switching Center), ATM switches, and switch and router products. LG Electronics' broadband system solutions had been used in carrier's backbone for several years, and its performance and reliability will be greatly enhanced thanks to Erlang's switching fabric solution.

LG Electronics has also selected Se and its next version of switch fabric for its next generation switch and router products. LGE's next generation product will provide carrier class reliability, scalability, advanced QoS support, softswitch compliance, and various service features like VPN and MPLS. The system will support various network topologies including mesh and ring and will be optimized for multimedia traffic. The next generation system architecture is based on Erlang's innovative protocol independent switch fabric; hence, interworking among various protocols like ATM, IP, MPLS, POS, Gigabit Ethernet, FR, and CES is implemented very efficiently.

"We continue to focus on our customers' demanding needs, and are pleased that our global customers like LG Electronic recognize our commitment to their market needs and design philosophies," said Andres Blazquez, executive vice-president of corporate development. "We had worked hard together to define, develop, and verify the products, and are very happy to see their system released."

LG Electronics is developing a new line of switches and routers to meet the anticipated robust growth for broadband data traffic in the next few years in the Pan Asian region and worldwide. The number of broadband service subscribers in the Asian region (excluding Japan) is projected to rise from this year's 11.4 million to 37.8 million by 2005, according to Gartner, Inc., a leading market research firm.

"As global telecommunications leader and leading telecommunication equipment manufacturer, we are always looking to find new technological advances that can help us remain strong in the global communication market," said S.H Park, vice president of Information & Communication LG Electronics. "We believe that Erlang has put together the talent and the intellectual property to provide us with chipsets that will run more efficiently, with higher performance, and will be easily integrated into our systems, and more scalable with our next generation systems."

"We are proud to have been selected by LG Electronics for their next generation broadband equipment. Communications manufacturers are demanding switch fabric that helps them meet their requirements for greater bandwidth efficiency, increased speed, and higher performance," said Dr. Paul Min, chief executive officer and chairman of Erlang Technology.

LG Electronics ATM multi-service edge switch is shipping today. The first multi-service platform for NGN (Next Generation Network) will be ready for shipping in second quarter 2003, and the high-end system with 160Gbps throughput will be available by the end of 2003 with Erlang's next version of switch fabric product.
