The company's Dilithium Core Transcoder (DCT) is a 3GPP-324M to/from H.323 gateway that enables 3G mobile multimedia users to seamlessly connect to Internet- based multimedia clients. Building the DCT with open standards-based telecom platforms and ComStruct™ resource boards from Motorola significantly reduced Dilithium Networks' time to market and provided the company with a high density, high availability hardware solution that is scalable and flexible. Using Dilithium Networks' unique patent-pending transcoding technology, the DCT provides real-time interoperability between the various audio and video standards found in mobile and Internet-based communication. This advanced transcoding technology produces higher channel densities and lower cost per channel than using a traditional tandem transcoding-based approach. The DCT is based on Motorola's ComStruct CPCI-C6410 digital signal processing (DSP) resource boards integrated into a Motorola CompactPCI telecom platform. The ComStruct CPCI-C6410, the latest generation of Motorola's successful open standards-based DSP resource boards, provides a high-density processing resource particularly suited to resilient multi-channel applications such as Dilithium Networks' video transcoding technology. "Motorola's off-the-shelf system gives us a short time to market without compromising performance, allowing us to fully exploit our unique high performance transcoding technology without any platform-related performance bottlenecks," said David Myers, vice president of engineering for Dilithium Networks. "The Motorola solution has the throughput, bandwidth and the DSP processing power to provide the DCT with the high channel densities it requires. It is very important to us that the system achieves levels of availability and reliability that allow deployment in a 24x7 operation in lights-out environments."
According to Pete Rendek, director of media solutions marketing for Motorola Computer Group, "This ground-breaking product will act as a catalyst for the deployment of multimedia communications services on both the fixed and mobile networks. As 3G multimedia services are deployed, and people take up this service, they will have immediate access to an established community of users on the Internet. It is very exciting to be working with another company that is at the cutting edge of communications technology." The DCT line of products from Dilithium Networks will be available to select customers for evaluation purposes in late Q3 2002, with general availability expected in Q1 2003. |
