Oplayo notched another world first today when it demonstrated live streaming video to a 2.5G mobile. From today, fans of Finnish rock band Kemopetrol will be able to view the band’s latest music video, “Goodbye,” from the band’s website. “Goodbye” is currently top of MTV Europe’s play list and fans can download this, together with an exclusive interview with the band, to their mobile phone using Oplayo’s streaming video technology. Blair Schooff, head of business development, new media, BMG Europe, Kemopetrol’s record company said: ”Oplayo is the only company out there with the technology to stream music video content to mobile phones, so they were a natural partner for us. Music video in mobile format will lead to a more personal, better experience and should also give consumers new reasons to buy music online legally.” Nokia Ventures-backed Oplayo develops leading edge streaming video and rich media technology for fixed internet and wireless devices. Oplayo’s technology gives end-users an easy-to-use, "instant play" rich-media experience, using a simple media player sent to the phone from the content owner’s website without the need for extensive buffering. Initially, the Kemopetrol video will only be available for Nokia 7650 mobile users with GPRS and internet access.
The product version of the Oplayo video player with its many enhanced features and user interface will be available in September 2002 for mobile operators, content providers, content aggregators and corporations. |
