i-mode wireless coming to France
5th September 2002

Bouygues Telecom and NEC Corporation, via its subsidiary NEC France have entered into an agreement for the supply of a mobile multimedia platform with a view to developing i-mode services in France.

The platform was developed by NEC, and is supplied off-the-shelf to Bouygues Telecom. It is composed of a set of servers and integrated software which enables Bouygues Telecom customers to gain access to the i-modeTM services on the GPRS and then the UMTS networks, if the company obtains a 3G licence.

NTT DoCoMo will provide Bouygues Telecom with its know-how, with the experience it has acquired in the Japanese market, and with technological innovations in the mobile multimedia services.
NEC thus demonstrates the quality of its "end-to-end" offer, including network infrastructure systems, service platforms, mobile terminals, and content services, offered to mobile telephone operators and users throughout the world.

Bouygues Telecom has the ambition to develop mobile multimedia by continuing with the policy which has brought it success - products for the general public which are simple, useful, good quality, and affordable. On April 17, 2002, the company signed a license and technology transfer agreement with NTT DoCoMo, for the launch of i-modeTM services in France.
