The Samsung Galaxy Round is the world’s first commercialized full HD Super AMOLED flexible display phone. As can be seen in the photos above and below, this is definitely something different and surprisingly will go on sale in Korea tomorrow - 10th October.
This is the world’s first curved display smartphone and comes with a 5.7” Full HD Super AMOLED 1080p display screen and although Samsung did not release a full specification for the Samsung Galaxy Round they did confirm it is 7.9mm in depth and weighs 154 grams. Further it has a 13 megapixel camera, 2.3 Ghz quad core processor, Android 4.3 and comes with 4G connectivity.
It will come in one colour at launch and this will be Luxury Brown. More colours will be added post launch.
The idea behind the curved phone is that it is easier to hold and is more comfortable to hold in the hand. We will check this out once we get our hands on one. Samsung did not say that the Samsung Galaxy Round is coming to the UK but we see no reason why not.
The Samsung Galaxy Round comes with some neat features called Roll Effect, and Gravity Effect ( check out the video below to see Roll Effect in action). These two features take advantage of the curved design and offer users the ability to check say time and battery level by rolling the phone even when switched off. The other feature Gravity Effect can be used for creating visual interaction with the screen by tilting the device.
The Samsung Galaxy Round is certainly an interesting phone for sure. We hear at 3G just wonder how a phone with this curved shape would fare in a series of drop tests though ? We will look into finding out more about this.
