We all knew it was happening, but Apple have now officially confirmed that they are holding a press event on October 22nd. At the event, taking place in San Fransisco, Apple are expected to unveil their next-gen tablets (the iPad 5 and iPad Mini 2) and the latest version of its Mac OS desktop software.
Here at 3G we're only interested in the mobile aspects of Apple's event, but that should provide more-than-enough excitement for one day.
Apple's iPad 5 is the latest evolution of the world's most popular tablet. It's expected to adopt a more compact design - similar to the iPad Mini's design - making it the lighter, thinner and smaller than the iPad 4. We've also been led to believe that it'll have a faster A7 processor and - importantly - a fingerprint sensor that is built into its home-screen button.

Meanwhile, the iPad Mini 2 looks set to improve on Apple's original compact tablet thanks to the inclusion of a Retina display. That's a hugely significant improvement in its own right, but the iPad Mini 2 is also expected to be benefit from a faster processor, an improved camera and a whole new colour range (Gold, Silver and Space Grey).
