Nokia Nearby Now Available In US !

By Simon Thomas on 16th October 2012

Nokia have now made the Nokia Nearby application available to download to owners of Nokia feature phones in the US. The phones it's available on include all Series 40 smartphones as well as the Nokia Asha range.

The Nokia Nearby application is a location-based service which enables users to find things around them, such as pubs, restaurants, cash machines, trains stations and much more. Nokia's feature phones lack GPS, so the service uses WiFi to pin-point your location.

Nokia Nearby groups the things around you into categories so you can easily find exactly what your looking for. Categories include Eat and Drink; Entertainment; Shopping; Transport; Sight Seeing; Business and Services; and Facilities.

When you've found what you wanted you can access more details about the venue such as the phone number and address . Sadly, it won't give you directions to the venue because Nokia's feature phones don't support GPS.

Nokia Nearby also has built-in social networking features meaning you can share places you've found with your friends and family. You can also add places you've visited to a list of favourites and even add them to your phonebook.

We don't know when and if Nokia Nearby will be available to download in the UK, but as soon as 3G hear more we'll let you know.
