Microsoft have added their Surface tablet to its online store where it's now available to pre-order. For now only the Windows RT model is available with the Windows 8 Pro version expected to be added soon.
The lowest cost model comes in at £399 which gets you the 32GB Surface, but that doesn't come with the Black Touch Cover. The Black Touch Cover doubles as a keyboard and also has an optical track-pad and is included with the 32GB tablet if you pay £79 extra. While, the top 64GB is available with the black touch cover included for £559
The choice is there to add the touch-cover at a later date but Microsoft have priced an additional touch cover at £99.99. Therefore , it's cheaper to get the bundled deal than to buy one at a later date.
Microsoft have listed the Surface as launching on October 26th, but added that orders won't arrive until October 30th. We presume you'll therefore be able to head down to a retail outlet and pickup the tablet on October 26th but we don't yet know where it'll be available.
The price-point Microsoft have decided on puts the Microsoft Surface in direct competition with Apple's iPad. We wonder whether this is a smart decision and we'll just have to see if Microsoft can make any inroads on Apple's market share.

3G's instincts say that Microsoft are in with more chance of success in the business market with the Windows 8 Pro version of the Surface. However, we're not yet sure how it'll be priced , but we are expecting £500 as a minimum starting point. We'll bring any information related to either versions of Microsoft's tablets as and when we get it !
