Nokia Making Meltemi - An Operating System For Feature Phones ?
![]() |
Nokia may have stopped using its own operating systems (Symbian and MeeGo) in its smartphones, but the latest news suggest they are working on a new OS for feature phones.
According to the Wall Street Journal Nokia is working on a new operating system known as Meltemi. Nokia Meltemi is designed for feature-phones, which historically have come with their own locked-OS which can't be upgraded or changed.
However, with even feature phones getting more and more advanced it seems a good time to release a specific upgradable operating system.
The information hasn't been confirmed by Nokia and it's also thought that in the US Nokia may only release Windows smartphones and not any feature phones at all. However, if Meltemi is in production it shows Nokia hasn't given up on designing operating systems altogether.
