Blackberry have added a new guide on their website to enable users to extend their battery life when using Blackberry OS 6 or OS 7.
With operating systems and smartphones becoming more and more advanced , battery life is becoming more of a problem, so these steps could help out a number of users.
The first suggestion is to close all applications you aren't using by holding the Menu Key and going into the App Switcher. From there you can then close all the applications that are open but not currently being used.
Another idea is turn of any network connections you aren't using because they are a real battery drain. For example, if you aren't using WiFi or Bluetooth you should disable them until they are needed. To do so you click the connections logo on the home-screen and then go into manage connections.
A related suggestions is to use WiFi when you are in an area of low mobile coverage. This will save battery because you'll be accessing the connection for a shorter time , as well as having the browser and mobile on for less time.
Blackberry also suggest taking advantage of the Auto On/Off feature for when you are asleep which will save more battery than putting the mobile into sleep mode. Obviously, you can't receive any calls when the mobile is off but you'll receive all your data and alerts when the mobile comes back on. In order to use this feature you select Options/Device and then Auto On/Off.
The final and most significant suggestion is to adjust your mobiles back-light settings, by lowering the brightness and reducing the backlight timeout. The backlight is a real drain on battery and unless your outdoors in bright light we suggest lowering it as much as possible.
