Apple have just confirmed at their "Lets Talk iPhone" conference that iOS 5 will be coming out on October 12th.

Everyone has been waiting for the iPhone 5 announcement which hasn't happened yet with Apple teasing the press, like always. However, if the new operating system is launching on October 12th it seems very likely that's when the new iPhone will launch.

Now we just have to wait to find out whether the new device is the iPhone 5, or the iPhone 4S which is rumoured to be a more affordable version of the iPhone 4.
