![]() |
The Nokia N900 launched with the Maemo platform which was then replaced at a later date by the new MeeGo platform, which was the product of a collaboration between Nokia and Intel.
In order to install MeeGo users used to have wipe the original Maemo platform completely , which meant they lost a number of features. One such feature lacking the original MeeGo release is 3G calling.
Well Nokia have now announced that they will be releasing a new version of MeeGo which will support 3G video calling. However, even more significantly they announced that a new version of Maemo will enables users to dual-boot their Nokia N900. So you can choose which operating system you'd like to boot each time you start your mobile.
Nokia are keen to stress that you install MeeGo at your own risk and recommend that if you don't feel confident you shouldn't do it. Later this year mobiles will be launching with Meego pre-loaded so there is the option to wait for them.
