Europe : Google have released Google Maps Navigation, a highly anticipated update to its Google Maps software.
The software capitalizes on Google Maps to work as a fully fledged navigation system.
Google Maps Navigation is available for Android 2.0 devices and is currently in beta.
Unlike most satellite navigation systems Google Maps Navigation is constantly connected to the internet, ensuring your maps are always up to date and can also provide data in real-time.
Google Maps Navigation has some hugely innovative features that will no doubt ensure the software’s success.
The first set of innovations relate to searching for your destination.
You don’t need to know the exact postcode or address of your destination you can search in plain English by street, business name etc. Additionally, you can search by voice which removes the need to type and can also prove easier with things you might have no idea on how to spell.
Google Maps Navigation also features real-time traffic reports, displayed in “traffic view” on your screen as you drive.
Additionally with Google Maps Navigation you can search along your route for petrol stations, restaurants, McDonalds and much more.
Google Maps also has satellite view, which uses satellites to provide a hi-definition picture of your route as you drive. The view is automatically loaded over the internet as your drive.
Google Maps Navigation also integrates the amazing Street view, which gives you pictures of the actual street you are driving on. The software automatically switches to StreetView when you get near your destination.
The software is free and is currently in beta and you can download it here.
