Europe
: MobiTV, the world's first global television network and technology
company providing live television on mobile phones, is delighted to
announce that it has signed an agreement with mobile media company
3 providing its customers with MobiTV, a suite of seven channels available
'live' across the 3 network.
Through its deal
with MobiTV, 3 is now offering customers a portal providing access
to a suite of new channels, namely: CNN; ITN; Kiss; Cartoon Network;
Shorts TV; Extreme Sports; and Bravo. The channels, which are showing
live and near-live TV, are available for a subscription of GBP5 a
month*.
The 'always available'
MobiTV channels will complement 3's current popular TV service, which
offers a range of formats and programming, from preview and highlights
packages for primetime shows such as 'Lost' and ' The X Factor', to
news round-ups and special dial-in access to live events.
Ray DeRenzo, VP
New Business Development, MobiTV, commented: "We are extremely
excited to be announcing our relationship with 3 and to further cement
our position as the leading provider of MobiTV services in the UK.
We are very proud of the role we are playing in moulding the landscape
for mobile television in the UK and look forward to further enhancing
the range of channels we can offer our operator partners. Conversely,
we also boast an increasing number of operator partners through whom
our content partners can realise their multimedia aspirations."
Gareth Jones,
3's COO, comments: "Mobile TV isn't about replacing or replicating
the at-home TV experience. It's about finding a unique crossover between
TV and mobile to make the whole experience richer. It's more like
'TV+' - what you want to watch, when you want to watch it, in a package
that fits the time you have. 3 has the largest mobile TV audience
in the UK and MobiTV is a great addition to our TV offering."
MobiTV has created
a virtual media network in the UK, linking broadcasters with the network
operator community. The pioneering service creates significant revenue
streams for operators, an exciting new distribution outlet for TV
channels and has sparked a new industry of made-for-mobile TV production.
Ensuring the best in customer choice, MobiTV offers a selection of
channel suite offerings, highlighting the scalability of the MobiTV
product, as well as the scope and flexibility it provides operator
partners in assembling channel line-ups tailored to defined demographic
groups.
The company recently
announced that it has been awarded an Emmy Award by the Academy for
Television Arts and Sciences. The award represents the first time
a wireless application has won such a high profile entertainment award
and it is symbolic of how the broadcasting and network operator communities
are closely partnering to offer new services to consumers.
* The MobiTV service
is now live on the 3 network - across all handset models - and customers
can find out more by visiting the 3 website or visiting their local
3 retailer.
About MobiTV
MobiTV is the
first global multimedia and technology company providing live mobile
television services to the network operator community. A pioneer in
defining the roll-out of mobile television in the US, MobiTV established
live mobile TV in the UK in providing the technology and content infrastructure
to Orange for the launch of Orange TV in the summer of 2005. This
was the first commercial application of live mobile television in
the UK and the agreement with 3 demonstrates MobiTV's unrivalled experience
in providing a complete mobile TV service to the network operator
community. It also clearly shows the value that the company offers
its content partners in helping them implement multimedia channel
strategies.
