: Intellisync Corporation announced its wireless email and mobile
software platform for the Dopod 900.
The
Dopod 900, the first 3G smartphone running on the Windows Mobile 5.0
operating system, is commonly referred to as the "super-mini
notebook" that fits in your pocket. This announcement is yet
another step in Intellisync's march towards ubiquitous mobile computing,
and supports Intellisync's distinction as supporting the broadest
range of devices and platforms in the mobile messaging industry.
"Intellisync Wireless Email is the full-featured
wireless email platform that keeps Dopod 900 & Dopod 838 users
connected and productive. It supports Microsoft Exchange, Lotus Domino
and IMAP/POP3 servers," said Terry Chung, Country Manager, Dopod
International (H.K.) Corp. Ltd. "We're very happy to work with
Intellisync to allow enterprises, consumers and operators to benefit
from single source solutions for wireless messaging and synchronization."
Global sales of WCDMA 3G handsets will more than triple
to around 58 million units this year, compared to 18 million units
last year, with Japan and Europe recording the fastest growth, according
to Gartner.
"As the market continues to expand with the introduction
of highly sought-after smartphones such as the Dopod 900 in Asia,
Intellisync continues to innovate and provide broadest device support
with the most comprehensive wireless communications suite available,"
said Rip Gerber, Intellisync chief marketing officer. "We are
very excited to be working so closely with Dopod and intend to support
their emerging business-optimized devices. Our support for the Dopod
smartphones enables businesses and carriers to provide the most advanced
communications services available on one of the hottest 3G devices
in the wireless space," he added.
Dopod -- The Asia Mobile Market Phenomenon
There is growing excitement in the mobile industry
in general, and in the Asian markets, specifically for the new Dopod
devices. Recent press have cited that Taiwan's Dopod International,
with a high-end mobile phone strategy, is rapidly expanding its operations
in Asia. One of its investors, High Tech Computer Corp. (HTC), is
considered Taiwan's leading original design manufacturer for smart
handheld devices. HTC supplies phones to Dopod and some of the world's
major mobile-phone operators such as Sprint Nextel Corp. of the US.
"The Dopod 900, the world's first 3G pocket PC, has not only
generated an enthusiastic response locally but also overseas,"
said Peter Chou, president of High Tech Computer Corp, as reported
by Taipei Times last month.
The Dopod 900 is the first 3G Windows 5.0 device with
a 3.6", 65K rotating color screen and has an exceptional resolution
of 640 x 480. The unit is programmed to automatically switch from
vertical to horizontal display. It supports GSM/GPRS (900/1800/1900)
and WCDMA (UMTS) mobile communication standards to ensure seamless
connections anywhere around the world. The device boasts improved
support of extensive multimedia and productivity applications, broad
integration of digital multimedia features, and faster connections
to the Internet and email servers. Seamless synchronization with email/PIM
and data, faster connection speeds, and versatile multimedia features,
enable customers to be more productive and enjoy their device anywhere,
anytime.
