Telstra 3G Mobile Broadband - 1xEV-DO

23rd November , 2004

Australia : The flexibility to work while away from the office is getting easier with the launch today of Telstra Mobile Broadband - 1xEV-DO, the latest addition to Telstra's CDMA mobile network that provides customers with even faster wireless connectivity.

Telstra's Managing Director of Mobile Sales and Solutions, Mr Murray Bergin, said Telstra Mobile Broadband allowed customers to access the internet or company networks remotely using compatible mobile devices such as laptops, and PDAs - at broadband equivalent speeds.

"Telstra Mobile Broadband is helping Australians to get truly mobile," Mr Bergin said.

"Businesses and consumers may access information from their home, on the road, in a shopping centre, airport lounge or at their customer's office&increasingly anywhere."

Mr Bergin said the key differentiators of Telstra Mobile Broadband included:

Broadband equivalent speeds - average data speeds of 300-600 kilobits per second (kbps), bursting to a maximum of 2.4Megabits per second (Mbps), translating into data speeds up to six times faster than typical landline dial-up speeds and up to nine times faster than typical GPRS mobile data speeds.
Broader coverage area - available in all capital cities and selected regional areas, focusing on major airport routes and the key central business districts.
Seamless handover - customers travelling outside a Telstra Mobile Broadband coverage area with a compatible mobile device will seamlessly switch to Telstra Mobile High Speed, covering over 98 per cent of the population.
Simple bundled offer - customers can choose one simple pricing plan to connect to Telstra Mobile Broadband, Telstra Mobile High Speed and Telstra Wireless Hotspots.
"With Telstra Mobile Broadband our objective was to develop a flexible and simple plan that removes the complex technology layer from view to provide customers with seamless access to Telstra's broad range of mobile data networks," Mr Bergin said.
