Siemens Investing in 3G Product Quality

19th November 2002

The Finnish manufacturer of protocol-analyzers and –simulators NetHawk has concluded an agreement with Siemens for the supply of the network emulation part of the Final Factory Testing of Siemens UMTS base stations. This agreement is the start of a partnership in the field of protocol testing and network emulation. The deliveries to the Siemens base station factories have already started.

Inset is the NetHawk 3G Installation Tool.

NetHawk is delivering to Siemens the 3G RNC/Iub Simulator with the capability of emulation of the RNC-functionality, complete BER, BLER and FER testing and remote control of all functionality from the central test master PC. The flexible NetHawk scripting language is making the usage of existing test case library or the tailoring of own test sequences very easy. The NetHawk 3G RNC/Iub Simulator is based on the same emulation platform as the NetHawk 3G Installation Tool for the field installation.
The high quality of the UMTS base stations and the conformity with the 3GPP specifications are very important factors for Siemens. The high testing quality combined with the effectiveness of the automated factory testing process enables Siemens to increase the production of UMTS base stations with a very high level of product quality. Siemens is planning to implement this test system to all factories worldwide.
“NetHawk 3G Simulator is a powerful tool not only for the factory testing but also for system integration, type acceptance testing and field acceptance, says Jari Sankala, the managing director of NetHawk Germany. “ This cooperation is a further evidence of our skills and flexibility to tailor our product to fit to the requirements of the customer.”
“The quality of the Siemens UMTS base stations is the basis for the quality of our customer’s networks later on,” says Olaf Heisch, Director of the Test Engineering of Siemens Munich. “With NetHawk it was possible to optimize the final factory testing process in order to save time and money without compromises in the quality.”
