The iPad Mini (pictured above) has only just launched across the globe but we're already hearing rumours regarding its successor, the iPad Mini 2. The fresh rumours, being reported by SlashGear, suggest that the iPad Mini 2 will have a Retina display !
Apple's recently released iPad Mini doesn't have a Retina display which has led to it being criticised in some quarters. However, there are reasons behind it's omission with the first being that it ensures that the iPad Mini is compatible with all applications built for the original iPad.
However, the primary reason was that Apple were struggling to find a way to keep battery life reasonable without reducing the brightness of the Retina display. The only resolution Apple could find was to lower the resolution of the 7.9 inch display down to 1024*768 pixels to reduce battery consumption.
The rumours about the iPad 2 Mini originated from inside one of Apple's Chinese suppliers and suggest that the tablet will come with a 7.9 inch Retina display running at a resolution of 2048 x 1536 pixels. That would give it a PPI of 324 providing truly stunning clarity, while battery life will be great thanks to the inclusion of Sharpe's IGZO battery technology.
Our instinct's tell us that it's very early to hear concrete rumours about the iPad Mini 2 , but a higher resolution display seems certain to be included in the next model. We can expect the iPad Mini 2 to be launched in the 3rd quarter of 2013 and by then 4G LTE should be widely available in the UK !
