Channel 4 have now announced that they'll be releasing a new version of their 4oD (4 on Demand) application for iOS and Android devices early next year.
The new version of the application will add support for live TV streaming with Channel 4, Channel 4+1, E4 and More 4 all becoming available. Initially, you'll only be able to watch Live TV over WiFi, but in the future we'd expect 4G support to be added.
One excellent feature set to be included in the 4oD application is the ability to temporarily store programmes for times when you don't have an internet connection. This is especially useful for those travelling to work on the tube !
As with the previous version of the 4oD application you'll be able to watch replays of your favourite shows after they've originally been broadcast. Not all shows are currently supported but the list of programmes available is growing all the time.
The 4oD application also allows you to pause playback on one device and then continue watching on another. For example, you might start watching on your desktop PC before then transferring to your mobile or tablet.
Currently, we don't have any detail on when the new versions of 4oD will be available on iOS and Android devices. However, we'd expect it to be early in 2013 and 3G will let you know as soon as we hear more.
