O2 Arena Launches Contactless Payment Technology !
![]() |
The O2 Arena has introduced contactless payment technology so that its visitors can pay for items with their mobile or pre-paid card.
You'll be able to pay for all items under £15 at over 250 terminals at The O2, which will reduce queue size and improve the customers experience while at the entertainment venue. O2 announced that 75 per cent of payments on a show-night are under £15, so the service definitely has a market.
The service is being provided by Barclaycard and Visa Europe who have installed 56,000 NFC terminals since 2007.
Over the next couple of years we expect NFC to grow in popularity with McDonalds already adopting the technology, as well as Starbucks.
The only thing holding back NFC is the limit on the amount you can spend, which is their for security reasons but in the future we're sure you'll be able to authorise payments of higher value using a PIN.
