A new report by QuickPlay Media shows that viewing live or on demand programmes on your mobile or tablet is becoming more common.

Infact, 76 per cent of 18-44 year respondents claimed they are viewing more TV on their mobile or tablet than one year ago. 51 per cent of the respondents also viewed a TV show or film on their smartphone or tablet, which is an encouraging figure.

Strangely, more consumers watched TV on their mobile in their home (39%) than when commuting (28%). On-demand TV shows , such as the X Factor,  proved the most popular type of content.

The popularity of mobile TV and live streaming looks set to continue because 75 per cent of all respondents wanted the TV channels to invest more money in mobile TV. Also 33 per cent of respondents watched mobile TV every week , which suggests that loyalty and repeat viewing is already taking place.

The huge growth in tablet ownership has helped mobile TV greatly, because the bigger screen-size provides a much better viewing experience. Infact, tablet owners spend far more time watching TV on their device with 20 per cent claiming to watch more than an hour in one sitting.

With new services, such as Sky Go and ITV Player now available for smartphones we can't help think that over the next year mobile TV will experience  huge growth. 3G also thinks the roll-out of even faster 4G mobile networks will increase its adoption even more !

The biggest threat to mobile TV use in the home is the introduction of Smart TV's which include streaming on-demand services such as BBC's iPlayer.
