Virgin Media Considers National Wi-Fi Network

The leading Wi-Fi players in the UK are BT with it's Openzone and The Cloud but this may soon change as Virgin Media considers entering the Wi-Fi arena in a big way.
The Telegraph led with this story and this can be read here.
The Telegraph say that Virgin Media is ideally placed to use its existing cable network and piggyback a Wi-Fi network to it. This has been done in the US by cable firm Cablevision.
Following on from the original Telegraph article, many news sites are predicting that Wi-Fi routers could be sited alongside Virgin Media's street sited cabinets used for phone and broadband distribution.
It is also suggested that the Wi-Fi could be offered free to Virgin Media customers and on a ‘pay as you go' basis to others. Wi-Fi speeds are suggested to be around 5 megabytes per second.
