Japanese research company BCN Ranking says that the Samsung Galaxy S outsold the 32GB iPhone 4 in Japan. The period looked at was the last week in October.

This may all seem a shade biased towards the Samsung Galaxy S as the week in question was the launch week for the handset. We would expect that during the Samsung Galaxy S's launch week sales would be higher and therefore these figures could be misleading.

BCN Ranking went on to say that the two iPhone 4 phones ( 16GB and 32GB ) had been number 1 and 2 for 18 weeks up until the end of October. The main seller of the Samsung Galaxy S was NTT Docomo and in Japan it comes with Android 2.2.
