BT’s WiFi Growing at a Record Rate

BT's  WiFi portfolio seems to be going from strength to strength.

Firstly, BT has stated that it has over 2 million WiFi hotspots in the UK. The WiFi hotspots are available from leading brands such as Ramada Jarvis, Hilton, Caffe Nero, Starbucks, Road Chef, McDonalds, British Airlines and many many more via BT Openzone.  Included in the 2 million hotspots, are hotspots from the BT FON Wi-Fi Community where people share their connection with others. BT has added a total of more than 780,000 hotspots in the last six months.

Secondly, another growth area is from BT Total Broadband users who also have an iPhone or an Android smartphone. BT say that over 700,000 such users have downloaded the free App that gives easy mobile access to free and unlimited Wi-Fi and includes a mapping service. Head here to download  this App.

Gavin Patterson, chief executive officer, BT Retail, said: "Demand for wireless access is growing at a record rate, we have added more than 780,000 hotspots in the last six months and will continue to meet the demand as more and more smart-phone, laptop, tablet, iPod and e-reader users choose WiFi to stay connected when they are out and about."

Thirdly, Charing Cross Tube station is the latest addition to BT's wireless broadband network. Commuters can now connect to the web in the ticket hall area and Northern and Bakerloo line platforms at the station as part of a 6 month trial from London Underground and BT.
