Android 1.6 Devices Get Google Maps Navigation

US : Google Maps Navigation in Beta mode was launched last month as a free inclusion within Google Maps for Android 2.0 devices. Google Maps Navigation has now been released for the Android 1.6 and higher ( Donut ) mobile handsets including the Toshiba G1 and the myTouch 3G.
Google Maps Navigation for Android 1.6 is available to download from Android Market. However, Android 1.6 does not currently include all the features of Android 2. This is expanded on below.
Google Maps Navigation provides a GPS system over the 3G mobile internet and has automatic rerouting and voice guidance included. Google search for Google Maps Navigation can be operated by typing queries or using voice command searches.
The benefits of an internet connection, whether it's free Wi-Fi at the airport or Google Maps Navigation in your car. This release also includes the new Layers feature, which lets you overlay geographical information on the map. View My Maps, transit lines, Wikipedia articles about places, and more. Some features of Android 2.0 are not available on Android 1.6, for example, the ability to use the "navigate to" voice command.
However, you can still create a shortcut that will allow you to launch Navigation and start getting directions to a specific place from your current location with just a single touch from your home screen. For example, you can create a "Home" shortcut to quickly navigate home, no matter where you are. Just use the "Add" menu item from the home screen, then choose "Shortcuts", then "Directions."
