Apple Watch - Models and Prices Guide

Unlike most smartwatches the Apple Watch isn't a case of one size fits all. Instead there are three core models with numerous customisation options beyond that and wildly different prices depending on what you choose.

To help you get your head around the options we've created a guide to all the models and all the prices.

Apple Watch Sport - From £299

Apple Watch Sport

The Apple Watch Sport is the most affordable model, but it's still not cheap. It starts at £299 for a 38mm watch face and rises to £339 for a larger 42mm face.

This version of the watch is housed in a silver or space grey anodised aluminium case, which is as light as standard aluminium but 60 percent stronger.

It has an Ion-X glass display, which is lightweight and resistant to scratches and it comes with a Sport Band, which is flexible, light and soft. The band is available in a choice of white, blue, green, pink or black and all five colours are available whether you opt for a 38mm or 42mm version.

As you might have gathered the Apple Watch Sport is designed with physical activity in mind, but as it's the cheapest version it's bound to prove popular even among the least sporty of buyers and you can always swap the strap for a smarter one, at extra expense of course.

Apple Watch - From £479

This is the mid-tier option and given that it's just called the Apple Watch it's perhaps the version that Apple envisions being the most popular.

There are numerous variants of this model though, which makes it a lot more complicated to get a grip on than the Apple Watch Sport.

It has a stainless steel case that's been cold forged to make it up to 80 percent harder and it has a sapphire crystal display, which is designed to be ultra-hard and polished.

The choice comes with your strap selection. The cheapest option is to get it with a black or white Sport Band, which will cost you £479 for a 38mm watch or £519 for a 42mm one.

Alternatively you can get it with a Classic Buckle or a Milanese Loop, each of which costs £559 for the smaller size or £599 for the larger one.

A black, bright blue, stone or light brown Leather Loop can only be paired with a 42mm watch and will cost you £599, while black, brown, midnight blue or soft pink Modern Buckles are only available for the 38mm watch and they cost £649.

If you'd rather have a metal strap you can opt for a Link Bracelet, which costs £819 with the 38mm watch or £859 with the 42mm one. Or you can get a space black stainless steel Link Bracelet, which uniquely is paired with a space black stainless steel case and costs £899 for the 32mm version and £949 for the 42mm one.

Apple Watch Edition - From £8000

Apple Watch Edition

If you thought nearly £1,000 for an Apple Watch was expensive you might want to sit down, because the Apple Watch Edition starts at £8,000.

This version comes in 8 models, each of which has an 18-carat yellow or rose gold case, a sapphire crystal display and comes in a premium leather box with a built-in inductive charger.

For £8,000 you can get the 38mm version in either yellow or rose gold with a white or black Sport Band. For a 42mm version of the same it will cost you £9,500.

Stump up £12,000 and you can nab the 42mm version with a black or midnight blue Classic Buckle in yellow or rose gold.

That strap doesn't come as standard with the 38mm version, but if you want the smaller size and have money to burn you can get it in yellow or rose gold with a bright red or rose grey Modern Buckle for £13,500.

Straps - From £39

If you fancy a change of strap or want one which isn't available as standard with the model you've purchased you can buy a replacement one.

You can get a Sport Band in Black, Black with a space grey stainless steel pin, white, pink, blue or green for £39.

A Milanese Loop or Classic Buckle can be yours for £129. As can a Leather Loop, in a choice of stone, light brown, black or bright blue, with medium and large sizes available.

A Modern Buckle will cost you £209 in brown, black, soft pink or midnight blue and a choice of small, medium or large sizes and a Link Bracelet will cost you £379.

All straps are available for both 38mm and 42mm watches except the Leather Loop, which only fits 42mm watches and the Modern Buckle, which only fits 38mm ones.
