Samsung catapulted the phablet into prominence back in 2011 when they launched the original Samsung Galaxy Note (pictured above) and we're now closing in on the launch of the 4th incarnation of their oversized phone, or undersized tablet, depending on your point of view.

The Samsung Galaxy Note 4 is expected to touchdown in the second half of 2014 and rumours about the next-gen phablet are now really starting to take shape and it's already looking like a very exciting piece of kit.

According to sources speaking to GSMArena the Note 4 will have a 5.7-inch QHD (or Quad HD) display meaning it runs at a resolution of 1,440 x 2,560 pixels. That's the same size display as the Galaxy Note 3, but the pixels-per-inch rating would soar to 515.

There is also speculation that Samsung are testing a flexible OLED display for inclusion on the Galaxy Note 4, but so far manufacturers are struggling to deliver flexible displays with high resolutions, so we think it's still to soon for it to debut on Samsung's phablet.

However, what's more likely is the rumoured 64-bit Exynos processor which would make it the first Android smartphone to adopt the a 64-bit architecture. Apple's iPhone 5S already has a dual-core 64-bit chip which has performed well above its raw-clock speed in benchmarks and the technology is undeniably the future of mobile phones.

That processor is rumoured to be backed up by a whopping 4GB of data, which would be a first for a mobile phone. While, other sources speaking to ETNews suggest that the phablet will come with a 20 mega-pixel camera up from the Galaxy Note 3's 13 mega-pixel snapper.

In terms of software everything remains under wraps, but we can expect a vastly improved S-Pen interface with tweaked and new applications. While, it'll presumably come pre-loaded with the very latest version of Android KitKat overlayed with a revamped version of Samsung's TouchWiz user-interface.

As soon as we get more news about the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 you'll be the first to know.
