Owners of the Xperia Z, Xperia ZL, Xperia ZR and the Sony Xperia Tablet Z will be pleased to hear that Sony have begun rolling out Android KitKat (4.4.2) for their devices.
Those with any of the devices listed should receive notification of the updates availability automatically, but you can also get it by using Sony's PC Companion software. It's rolling out gradually with the timing and availability varying by region and operator.
After installing the update users will notice the new optimised user-interface which has an almost 3D-like appearance, along with performance improvements across the board. Sony have also brought across the PlayStation 4 user-interface with elements featured on the home-screen, lock-screen, status bar and quick settings.
That's not all because Sony have also revamped all of their native applications with standout changes including enhancements to the messaging apps user-interface complete with even more smileys, a new email layout and even better battery life thanks to improvements to battery stamina mode. You'll also get the Smart Social Camera application for the first time.
Sony have also confirmed that the Sony Xperia T2 Ultra, Xperia E1 and Xperia M2 will get Android KitKat in July. We'll be sure to let you know as soon as the update touches down.
