PayPal Launch In Store-Mobile Payments Service

PayPal have now launch a new mobile payment system in the UK which enables Android and iOS smartphone owners to pay for items in store with their smartphone.

Now you might be predicting the service using Near-Field Communication (NFC) technology, but you'd be wrong because PayPal's service works without the need for an NFC chip.

You can pay for items in-store by downloading the PayPal application and then entering a PIN when your in store, which will generate a bar-code for the shopkeeper to scan. When the shopkeeper scans the item the amount required will be taken directly from your PayPal account.

The benefits of this system are that you don't need an NFC supported smartphone and the retailer doesn't need to install an NFC reader. This means that potentially all retailers and mobile owners could use the service without any need for drastic changes.

Currently, only the Aurora Fashions Group's stores support PayPal's mobile payment service which includes the Coast, Oasis, Warehouse and Karen Millen stores. However, the service is going to be rolling out to more retailers shortly.

The PayPal application is currently available to download for Android and Apple iOS devices, but we're sure that if it proves successful it'll spread to more operating systems. You can download the application by clicking here.
