Samsung Galaxy S3 v Galaxy S2 - Is It Worth Upgrading ?

Samsung Galaxy SIII

The Samsung Galaxy SIII is due to launch in the UK in just over a weeks time and owners of the Galaxy S2  will be wondering whether they should upgrade to Samsung's new mobile.

3G thought it would be helpful if we went over the main reasons people should upgrade to the Galaxy SIII by going over the major new benefits it brings over the Galaxy SII.

Hardware Improvments

The first major reason a user might want to upgrade is the improved hardware the smartphone brings to the tablet which includes a quad-core processor and a larger higher resolution display.

Larger Higher Resolution Touch-screen !

The Galaxy SIII has a 4.6 inch touch-screen making it 0.3 inches bigger than the Galaxy S2's. However, the real reason to upgrade is the new HD resolution (1280*720 pixels) of the S3's display, which gives it much greater clarity than the Galaxy SII's 800*480 pixel resolution.

The higher resolution display will make a huge amount of difference when it comes to gaming and playing movies, so for this alone could be enough for multi-media heavy users to upgrade.

Quad-Core Processing Power !

The Samsung Galaxy SIII also has a quad-core 1.4 GHz processor which gives you much more grunt than the Galaxy S2's dual-core chip. This will ensure your device is future-proof and will benefit from improved gaming and multi-tasking.

Although the current difference isn't that great in benchmarks between dual and quad-core chips thats only because applications and operating systems havn't been built to take full advantage of the additional power.

New Software Features

The software features brought by the Galaxy SIII are as much of a reason to upgrade as the hardware improvements in 3G's opinion. Standout software improvements include the inclusion of S-Voice, as well as Smart Stay, Smart Alert and S-Beam.

S-Voice The Alternative To Siri !

Android smartphone owners have long been envious of Apple iPhone 4S owners who have been using the Siri voice-control assistant for some time. Well the Galaxy S3 comes with "S-Voice", which is Samsung's own voice-assistant software.

S-Voice enables you to use voice commands to wake-up your smartphone, conduct web-searches and find out information, such as what the weather is like. Samsung are claiming that S-Voice is integrated more deeply than Siri and is a more complete package.

Whatever the case the addition of S-Voice is one of the top reasons to upgrade to the Galaxy S3 !

New Smart Features !

Samsung have also included a couple of new Smart features including "Smart Stay" which uses the smartphone's front-facing camera to sense when your looking at your Galaxy S3's screen. When your looking at your screen the mobile will then ensure the screen is bright and easily readable, but when you look away it'll dim the screen to save battery.

Additionally, Smart Alert is another neat feature which will alert you if you have missed calls when you pickup the smartphone. This ensures you never fail to notice an important missed call or text.

Share files quickly and instantly with S-Beam

Samsung's Galaxy SIII also comes with S-Beam support which is Samsung's optimised version of Android Beam. S-Beam enables you to quickly and easily send files using NFC just by tapping two smartphones together, This doesn't require any setup like Bluetooth and is a welcome addition.
